The main galaxy is the spiral NGC 2535 (centre), and it is colliding with its smaller companion galaxy NGC 2536 (lower left). Both are shown as pink-white in colour. Foreground stars are green. These galaxies are different from most galaxies, in that they have relatively young stars for the age of the galaxies, indicating that these stars have been formed in a second stage of star formation.
