Splinter galaxy (NGC 5907), optical image. Located around 40 million light years from Earth in the constellation Draco, NGC 5907 is a spiral galaxy, seen here side-on. The outer edge of the galaxy appears blue because of the hot stars being born in the spiral arms, whereas the yellow core contains older, cooler stars. A dark dust lane across the galaxy is just visible as a reddish streak.
