Cafferata's observatory. Located in Digne, France, at an altitude of 2500 feet, this private observatory was founded by R. B. Cafferata. Private observatories were built in the 19th and early 20th century by amateur astronomers, in the period before modern astronomy became too expensive for private individuals. This observatory has two telescope domes. The altitude helps provide good viewing conditions.
