Giant sequoias can grow to a height of 85 metres and have trunks 7 metres in diameter. Photographed circa 1902, in Calaveras Grove, California, USA. This area has been a tourist attraction since 1852, when the existence in the area of the giant sequoia trees (Sequoiadendron giganteum) was first reported. It became a US State Park in 1931.
