Muscles of the body. Artwork from Jacopo Berengario da Carpi's textbook, Isagogae breves, perlucidae ac uberrimae, in anatomiam humani corporis a communi medicorum academia usitatem (known in English as A Short Introduction to Anatomy), published 1523. This deep dissection of a male cadaver shows the nature of the underlying muscles. The cadaver is standing in the position of the sun god Apollo and is surrounded by light. Berengario (ca. 1460-1530) was an Italian physician and eminent anatomist.
