Human dissection. Artwork from Anathomia (1345), a text by the Italian anatomist Guido da Vigevano (1280-1349). Vigevano, one of the earliest anatomists of the medieval period, was the first to provide anatomical artworks in his manuscripts. He also pioneered the technique of dissecting corpses suspended in a standing position. Here, the corpse is being dissected down the neck and side of the chest.
