19th century anatomy lecture. Anatomist lecturing to a group of students using a dissected cadaver to demonstrate the anatomical principles. This artwork was taken from Francesco Bertinatti's Elementi di anatomia fisiologica applicata alle belle arti figurative, published 1837. Nineteenth-century medical students obtained an understanding of anatomy by dissecting cadavers, like medical students today.
