Ovarian adhesions to the uterus. Laparoscopic view of adhesions (white fibres) between an ovary (white, bottom right) and the uterus (centre). Adhesions are bands of scar tissue that form between organs as a response to tissue trauma. They usually result from abdominal surgery but can be caused by endometriosis, a condition where uterine tissue is found abnormally growing in other areas of the body. Adhesions are surgically removed if they cause pain, bowel obstructions or dysfunction of the reproductive system.
