MODEL RELEASED. Dental surgery. Image 4 of 4. View of the inside of the mouth of a 14-year-old girl under general anaesthetic during surgery. A premolar tooth (located between molar and canine teeth) and a piece of palate (mouth roof) bone were removed to allow an undescended tooth to come through. The bud of the undescended tooth is seen at upper right inside the mouth, next to the descended molar at right. The blue and yellow mass at centre is a plug for a hole where the palate has been removed. It is to prevent the hole from closing so that a gold chain can be attached to the undescended tooth bud to pull it down and encourage it to descend into the correct position. For a sequence showing the dental surgery for this undescended tooth, see images M780/606-609.
