Probiotic and prebiotic supplements. Blister pack of capsules containing stabilised bacteria cultures and oligofructose. The bacteria cultures used in the capsules are known as probiotic cultures. These contain species normally found in the human gut flora, including species of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Oligofructose is a probiotic sugar carbohydrate, it is non- digestible and supports the growth of probiotic bacteria in the large intestine. A preparation that combines both probiotic and prebiotic ingredients is known as a synbiotic.
