Model released. Surgeons removing the gallbladder (cholecystectomy), using a minimally-invasive laser technique. The conventional surgery demands a long vertical incision from under the rib cage towards the lower abdomen. Another one is then made on the liver to expose the gallbladder. Here, only three small incisions were made to insert a drainage tube, the laser emitter and a laparoscope (camera). The laparoscope provides a view of the gallbladder on a TV screen and guides the use of the laser in its removal. Cholecystectomy is performed to treat the severe inflammation of the gallbladder associated with gallstones.
