MODEL RELEASED. Pill camera endoscopy. Patient wearing a pill camera data recorder on a belt around his waist. This device records video images sent from the pill camera as it travels through the patient's digestive system after being swallowed. The digital images are transmitted by radio waves collected by receivers attached to the patient's abdomen (see image M440/191). This system allows the patient to carry on with normal activities while up to 50,000 images are recorded over an eight-hour period. Doctors then examine the images for signs of digestive disorders such as cancer. This is the Given Diagnostic System, developed in Israel. It has been approved for use in the USA and Europe since 2001.
