Herbert H. Turner (1861-1930), British astronomer and seismologist. Turner was the chief assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory for nine years before becoming a professor of astronomy at Oxford University. He was one of the leaders in the worldwide effort to produce an astrographic chart of the sky and improved on methods for obtaining the positions and magnitudes of stars from photographic plates. In his later career he studied seismology and discovered deep-focus earthquakes.
