Frederick John Marrian Stratton (1881-1960), British astrophysicist. Stratton served in World War I, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and being awarded the DSO. His career was spent at Caius College, Cambridge, and his students went on to occupy key positions in British astronomy, including several Astronomers Royal. Stratton was Professor of Astrophysics and Director of the Solar Physics Observatory at the University of Cambridge (1928-1947), and President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1933-1935). He was also involved in international work, attending all the meetings of the International Astronomical Union from 1922-1958.
