Traugott Sandmeyer. Portrait of the Swiss-born German chemist Traugott Sandmeyer (1854-1922). He is best known for his 1884 discovery of reactions that make aryl halides from amines, the Sandmeyer reactions. He also worked on the triphenylmethane dyes and the synthesis of isatin.
