John Henry Reynolds (1874-1949), British astronomer. Reynolds was born in Birmingham, England, and made his living as a businessman, devoting his spare time to astronomy. He built a private observatory, supported and visited many overseas observatories, and published many of his own observations. He was heavily involved in administration, serving the Royal Astronomical Society as Treasurer (1929-1935; 1937-1947) and as President (1935-1937). He died whilst attending the Norman Lockyear lecture in Birmingham, on 22 November 1949, seemingly dozing in his chair at the end of the lecture, having posed questions to the lecturer and audience a few minutes previously.
