Henry Perigal (1801-1898), British polymath. Perigal worked as a clerk and then a stockbroker. Outside of work, his main interest was attending meetings of scientific societies. He was treasurer of the Royal Meteorological Society for nearly 50 years, a member of the Mathematical Society, and of the Royal Institution, attending the latter for many years but only finally becoming a member at the age of 94. He became a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1850. He held somewhat unorthodox views on astronomy, claiming that the Moon did not rotate.
