Hugh Frank Newall (1857-1944), British astronomer. Newall pioneered astrophysics at the University of Cambridge, where he worked with J. J. Thomson, and established a new telescope at the Cambridge Observatory. He was President of Royal Astronomical Society, in London, from 1907 to 1909. He became the first professor of Astrophysics at Cambridge University in 1909, taking on the additional role of Director of the Solar Physics Observatory from 1913, holding both posts until 1928.
