Karl Friedrich Mohr (1806-1879), German chemist and professor at Bonn. He was of great service to analytical and pharmaceutical chemistry, devising many of the methods, techniques & devices used in volumetric analysis. He invented the pinch clamp, the cork-borer & the specific-gravity balance, and he discovered Mohr's salt. He was the first to use oxalic acid in alkalimetry & chromic acid as an indicator in the determination of the halogens. His text-books were many & widely used, and passed through many editions. His ideas on the different forms of energy and their mutual connection (1837) brought him close to discovering the Law of Conservation of Energy announced by Joule (1842).
