Albrecht Kossel (1853-1927) German physician. Kossel's full name was Ludwig Karl Martin Leonhard Albrecht Kossel. Kossel studied in Strasbourg and Rostock, graduating in 1878. Kossel was awarded the 1910 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. The Nobel was awarded for Kossel's work on cell proteins and nucleic acids. His other achievements include discovering the amino acid histidine (1896) and the biochemical amino acid product agmatine (1910).
