Louis Bernard Guyton-Morveau (1737-1816), French chemist and politician. Guyton-Morveau (also known as Guyton de Morveau) worked as a lawyer and politician before dedicating himself to studies of chemistry in 1782. He worked with Antoine Lavoisier on developing the first systematic chemical nomenclature. He also wrote the chemical section of the Encyclopedie Methodique in 1786. He assisted in several battles during the French Revolution, and formed a corps of balloonists for the French Revolutionary Army in 1793. Engraving by Edme Quenedey, between 1790 and 1820.
