X-ray diffraction results of soil samples taken from a crime scene. The graph plots the diffraction patterns of various soil minerals as peaks of intensity. A computer analysis of the results is able to determine the precise mineral content. X-ray diffraction of soil samples can be used to match a geographical location based on a known database of soil types and assist as evidence towards a crime investigation. Photographed at the Macaulay Institute, Aberdeen, UK.
