Nylon stocking fibres. Light micrograph of the weave of a nylon stocking (ladies tights). Nylon is a polyamide substance, and the first synthetic fibre ever to be produced. Nylon fibres are stronger and more elastic than silk and are relatively insensitive to moisture and mildew. Nylon is used in the manufacture of moulded articles, textiles (particularly hosiery and woven goods, including carpets), and medical sutures. Magnification: x60 at 35mm size.
