Magnetic cell-sorting balls. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of magnetic balls used to select cells in a process known as magnetic flow sorting. The desired cells in a mixture are labelled and then passed along a tube containing the beads. The desired cells stick to the beads, whilst the unwanted ones carry on through the tube.
