Dead sharks discarded by fishermen after cutting off their fins. Shark fins are used to make soup, and fetch a high price. The shark's meat is not valued, so the body, often still alive after finning, is thrown back into the sea. This method of fishing is deplored by animal welfare groups, who claim it inhumane and wasteful. Conservationists also warn that the high price of shark fins means more and more sharks are being killed. Some estimates give as little as two decades before many species become extinct. Photographed in the Red Sea.
