Woolungosaurus swimming underwater, artwork. This species belongs to the extinct group of marine reptiles known as plesiosaurs. It lived during the early Cretaceous, 110 million years ago. Woolungosaurus measured approximately 10 metres in length, of which over half was neck length. The long neck made Woolungosaurus a slow swimmer, so it probably hunted surface prey by ambushing from below.
