Dragonfly fossil. This dragonfly, Aeschidium densum, has been fossilised in Solnhofen Stone which is a type of limestone found in Germany that formed during the Jurassic era (about 200-145 million years ago). Dragonflies are large carnivorous insects that can catch other insects in mid flight. They have existed since the Permian era (280-230 million years ago) and there are now around 4500 different species.
