Detail of the fossil coral Goniopora websteri, a colonial form consisting of individual corallites (tubes which each held a polyp animal) located in a single compound skeleton. The specimen is from the Eocene period, approximately 40 million years old and was collected at Bracklesham Bay, Sussex, U.K. Each corallite has a diameter of 4 millimeters.
