Collection of fossil bone fragments, consisting of leg bones, mandibles and teeth of Ramapithecus, an ancestor of the orang-utan. Ramapithecus fossil bones were first excavated from Miocene deposits in Pakistan in the 1930s by George E. Lewis and were dated at 15 million years ago. Until the 1970s and 1980s they were considered to be the ancestors of the apes and modern man. This view has been overturned and Ramapithecus is now considered to be the ancestor of the orang-utan. This collection is housed at Yale University.
