Platinum ore samples. Platinum is a heavy, ductile metal, resistant to corrosion, usually associated with nickel and copper ores. It is a precious element and its occurrence in pure native form is extremely rare. Platinum is used in the chemical industry as a catalyst, and in jewellery. These samples of platinum-rich rocks are each about 1.5 centimetres across.
