Granite igneous rock. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock, formed when volcanic magma solidifies under pressure deep in the Earth's crust. It consists of medium- to large-sized mineral crystals. This type of granite, known as Eibenstock granite, is desirable as dimension stone (for the production of blocks to particular size specifications) because of its colour, texture and surface finish.
