Valparaiso earthquake, Chile, 1906. Artwork of people fleeing as the ground shakes and buildings collapse during the earthquake that took place on 16 August 1906, at Valparaiso, a coastal city in central Chile. The earthquake had a seismic magnitude of 8.6, and was felt as far away as Peru and Buenos Aires. Thousands of people were killed, and a tsunami struck the coast. Artwork published in the French magazine Le Pelerin, in 1906.
