Storm clouds seen from space. This photograph shows the clouds associated with a cyclonic disturbance. This is found near a low pressure region, and used to be called a mid-lattitude cyclone. If the depression at the centre of the storm has a very low pressure, it may lead to relatively violent storms with high winds. The centre of this system is seen as the spiral of clouds just below the Earth's limb near top centre. This storm was seen in the North Atlantic Ocean by the crew of Shuttle Challenger, during Mission 61-A of 30 October - 6 November 1985.
