Dead man's fingers fungi (Xylaria polymorpha). This inedible fungus occurs on decaying wood. The fruiting body is hard and varies in shape from cylindrical to knobbly. The protrusion seen on the top of each fruiting body is a pore (ostiole), through which sexual spores are released.
