Budding is a method of asexual reproduction in which a new individual (top right) is derived from an outgrowth that becomes detached from the body of the parent (the large central cell). The yellow regions within the parent are lipid bodies; consisting of glycerol and fatty acids, they serve as reservoirs for potential chemical energy and as sources of short carbon chains for use in cell growth and function.
