MODEL RELEASED. Genetic research. Researcher using an electrophoresis gel to separate out proteins labelled with a radioactive isotope of phosphorus (32 P). The warning label and the monitor (left) both guard against over-exposure to radioactive materials. This is part of work on the physiology, genetics and biochemistry of mammalian muscles. This work is being carried out at Dundee University, Scotland. The aim is to study the genetic control of proteins involved in biochemical reactions that increase muscle mass following resistance exercise. This could lead to genetic or pharmacological methods for increasing muscle mass. This research, ongoing as of 2006, is being carried out by Dr Keith Barr and colleagues in the functional molecular biology laboratory.
