Shkin, Afghanistan, satellite image. This village is in south eastern Afghanistan, on the Pakistani border, 230 kilometres south of Kabul. Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters hid in the surrounding mountains during the US invasion and occupation of Afghanistan. During that time more US troops were killed in Shkin than anywhere else in the country. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 10 November 2002.
