Jenin, West Bank, Occupied Territories, Israel, Ikonos satellite image. This Palestinian city, which has a large refugee camp towards the north, has a population of around 30,000. A few months after this photo was taken, in April 2002, there was a large Israeli Defence Force (IDF) operation within the city. Their objective was to stop the suicide bombing which they believed originated from within the refugee camp. Up to 70 Palestinians and 22 members of the IDF were killed in the fighting, with large portions of the city being demolished. Photographed on 3 February 2002.
