Woad flowers (Isatis tinctoria). Historically, this plant was cultivated for the production of a blue dye. In herbal medicine it is used externally to treat ulcers and inflammations. Woad has also been found to be a rich source of glucobrassicin, a chemical thought to be effective against breast cancer. Photographed at the Dilston Physic Garden, Northumberland, UK.
