Ragwort flowers (Senecio jacobaea). This widespread and common weed is poisonous to horses and other livestock. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which are highly toxic and accumulate in the liver of animals which eat the plant. A law has been passed in the UK to control the spread of ragwort by enforcing owners of land on which it is growing to take action to eliminate it.
