Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) in flower. This plant has been used for centuries in herbal medicine. The flowering tops are used to treat intestinal infections, particularly enteritis. As well as this, its leaves are used to make compresses for treating wounds. Photographed on a misty morning on the bank of the River Taw in Devon, England.
