Prostate cancer pills. Blister packs and box of pills used for treating prostate cancer. Each pill contains 250 milligrams of the anti-androgen drug flutamide. The prostate is a gland beneath the bladder in men which contributes seminal fluid to the ejaculate. Anti-androgens block the uptake of the male hormone testosterone by the prostate gland. This leads to the death of cancerous cells. The drug is taken with a luteinising hormone- releasing hormone (LH-RH) analogue, which effectively castrates" the patient. This combination starves the tumour. Side-effects include nausea, decreased libido and the enlargement of one or both breasts."
