Pinned broken leg. X-ray of a 60 year old woman's pinned broken leg. The tibia (shin bone, bottom) has been surgically immobilised by inserting a long pin and screwing it to the bone. This is known as internal fixation. The fibula (top) is also fractured. It is important a bone is correctly aligned if it is heal properly and avoid future complications.
