Grey whale carcass. This young grey whale (Eschrichtius robustus) was separated from its mother and killed by a group of 15 killer whales. The killer whales hunted the grey whale calf for over six hours, finally managing to keep it below the surface long enough to drown. They ate its tongue and lower jaw. Photographed off the coast of Monterey, California, USA.
